▣ A Child Who Hates Math0 Comments added to this post
Your child breezes through spelling, reading, writing, social studies, the arts, but when it comes to math your child's attitude quickly sours.
Never let your child say "I am just not good at this" and never let them know if you are intimidated by the subject. It is okay however to tell them that learning has changed since you were at school so let us study a way to get help with this. Explain that in today's world there are many ways to unlock a learning challenge. In a classroom situation it can be difficult to get the help needed when a student is sure that everyone else 'gets it' but him/her. Now is the time to find a tutor, if affordable. It will be important to consider the cost because quite often the longer a child can be tutored the more beneficial it will be. In-Home tutoring, On-line tutoring or Home Schooling with the help of a credentialed tutor are very popular. In-Home tutoring is of course going to offer your child the safety and security of a home setting. On-line tutoring is usually cheaper but still offers the one-on-one interactive learning with an on-line tutor. Children love computers anyway so that could be perceived as fun. Home Schooling is very popular now. Many parents hire a credentialed teacher to help them for a few hours a week with particular subjects. Teachers will also know the requirements for each State's curriculum. Libraries are full of information and so is the internet when it comes to deciding to Home-School. How do your know when a child needs a tutor? Parents should be the first to know, when there is a change of attitude, they become lazy about doing home-work, claim to hate school, angry about not understanding a particular subject. Many signs of distress should not be treated lightly. Decide on what is affordable to you and take action. What steps you take now can alter the direction of your child's future success in life. It is amazing how many people we have to admire today whom have reached great heights, politically, educationally or in the Entertainment world, who started with very little and often experienced a deprived childhood. What happened? Most of them we find when we read about their story, had a Mentor whom they attribute their success to. Many are teachers remembered through life who helped them, even rescued them from taking the wrong path. Educate a child and teach a love of learning; it will inspire and help them through life to become the best they can be. last edited on January 31st, 2009 at 9:30 PM |
