Facing fierce competition, homework assignments, sports activities etc. What a heavy load children are carrying these days! Experts are seeing stress levels in Elementary through College level students.
An overheard remark from a student recently "You don't go to school to learn, you go to school to get into college and then get a high-paying job". How sad that is! When a child is not doing well in school, parents should look for signs of sleep deprivation, test anxiety, change in behaviour, and recognize that this student needs their help. When a child says " I just don't get it" or feels inferior in some way in the classroom, it is important to find help immediately to change this attitude. With the right tutoring all children can over-come certain learning difficulties. Discuss with your child that everyone has a different learning style and how in a large classroom it is impossible for this to be addressed with each student. So one solution would be to find a Tutor/Coach. One-on-one tutoring is the best solution, however, small groups can work effectively when the students share the same difficulties with a subject. The group needs to be small enough for the tutor to give one- on-one attention to each student. It is not just about grades, it is also about LEARNING. Individual Coaching can be so much more than just a weekly visit with your child. Matching the right tutor with your child is important. Once you have chosen a tutor with the educational qualfications for your child, it is important to make sure that a Tutor's personalites is a good match too. When this is a good fit a child looks forward to those tutoring sessions. Tutors can address special issues or challenges that a child might be experiencing, but it is team work, and parental involvement is so important. Help with homework and school curriculum worksheets is more relaxing and enjoyable when a student can do it from their own home. Parents should ensure a quiet area for study and tutoring to be done on a consistent basis. This will reduce a lot of the stress. Once a child realizes they are understanding what was once a difficult subject, it becomes enjoyable, and their confidence and self-esteem will be greatly enhanced. What do parents need today? Affordable pricing. When choosing to work with a tutoring company keep in mind this. Ask yourself what do they offer and can I afford it. Find a company within your budget so that tutoring can be done on a consistent basis. No-one Knows more about a child's individual needs than a parent. It can help the tutor determine what a child is needing and the difficulties being experienced. It is team work. At Comfort Zone Tutoring we tell our students to think of their Tutors as their COACH. Just like all famous Sports Athletes, they have a COACH to help them be the best they can be. last edited on March 16th, 2009 at 9:30 AM |
