Appearance is the first thing that will be noticed about you.

Go for conservative look, hide tatoos, extreme hair styles are a no-no and that goes for odd colors.

Piercings keep for the artistic job hunts.

Let us say you are applying for a job in the business world.

Ladies, no low necklines or short skirts.
A jacket always gives a professional look. Shoes are to be smart, clean and if they are leather make sure they are polished. No bare legs and a modest purse.

Men. White, or blue shirt is safe, a tie
should be conservative. Wear a jacket even if you put it on just before an interview. Smart Slacks, and go for a professional image. Never dress down even if you think the environment might call for a more relaxed appearance later on.

Walk confidently towards the interviewer and make sure that handshake is firm,no
sweaty hands please!

Dont ask "and how are you" just a simple
greeting "thank you for this opportunity"
is a good one,or just "goodmorning/afternoon".

Lean back in your chair and maintain eye contact. Do you know when you lose eye contact you look as if you might be hiding something? If that is difficult to maintain, look at the mouth or below the nose of the interviewer. Do not talk too much. Hopefully you have done some research on the company and will be able to be knowledgeable. In the day of websites, there is no excuse not to thoroughly research a company you are hoping to work for.
If you are asked what you know about the company "Nothing really", hmm goodbye.
If asked why they should hire you, this is something you should expect and think out before. Remember it is what they gain by hiring you, they are not concerned at that point about what you are looking for, although they might ask that question. So make sure you have something to offer them. Education, enthusiasm, dedication, think about your strengths. A favourite question is what are your strengths and weaknesses. Turn a weakness into a plus.ie:"I tend to
get very involved in what I am doing and
dont like to stop before I finish",sort of thing. Strengths of course you have thought about that but do not boast. Never let the interviewer get the impression you "just want a job", show interest in the company you are asking to give you a job.

You have to first sell yourself likeability, smiling makes you look relaxed, but only when appropriate. Make sure you know what the company is looking for,why there is an opening, are there opportunities even if you start at the bottom, etc.Make sure you are what they are looking for by doing that research on the company Practise an interview with a friend. Listen very carefully to what your interviewer is saying and make sure you pick it up and connect.

You cannot win them all and if you become
so nervous that you did not do well, just
analyse what went wrong so it becomes a learning experience.

Do you have any questions? Just ask.
