Back to school with the usual pressures of after school activities, homework and getting organized again. Are you ready for that?

Is school something to be enjoyed or endured? That is an important question for parents to talk about with their children.

If your child fears school, their grades are dropping, or they are withdrawn, now is the time to talk. Parents who are a child's best friend won't have difficulties. Parents who have several children, maybe a job to hold down and coping with all the extra stresses of life may find it difficult.Every child needs someone trustworthy they can talk to, be it a teacher, counselor, mentor or maybe Grandparents, someone to trust and to have time to listen.

Success stories very often go back to that one person in their early life who had the time for them, listened, counseled and made them feel secure.

Do you know if there are bullies in your child's school? If so how would you advise your child to handle them?

Recently there have been several preventable sad cases of children committing suicide because of school bullies.

Bullying is taken very seriously in some European Countries where programs have been developed in schools to show the children that bullies are to be treated with disrespect. They are taught to view the Bully as a loser not somebody to be admired and feared because of the power achieved by intimidation. They are told to be strong and join together in challenging the bully. This of course should be discussed with the school, and parents' would be wise to join together if there appears to be problems the schools are not addressing.

What about other reasons a child is not doing well in school. School Counselors are invaluable and ready to help each child be the best they can be.

Tutoring after school programs are very successful in keeping children ahead and raising their self esteem.

When choosing to work with a tutoring service, consideration should be given to cost and value for money. A good fit for your child is important and a tutor who has the ability to diagnose a problem and analyse a learning style is essential. Call a few and decide on the service you feel most comfortable with. Most of the time tutoring is on-going so choose one within your budget, so that the tutoring will be something to look forward to on a continuous basis.

Tutors become mentors, whether college students or credentialed teachers. If they have a passion for teaching and take a personal interest in your child's learning style and personality you will be offering your child the best investment possible. Education will make the difference throughout life whether to succeed in life of not. Many great achievers attribute their success to the people or "that one person" in their early life who "made a difference"

On the reverse side of that, children who
get into trouble, are violent or having trouble with the law, usually have stories of being left on their own with no guidance in life from good adults.

It is important to get to know your childrens' friends and those around them who have the same goals and ambition in life.

Tutoring is not always remedial of course. Many parents who have the best of intentions and great ambition for their child will be very strict with extra homework studying. This is a plus as long as the child is not put under so much stress that instead of discovering the joy of learning and achievement find the pressure enormous and dreaded. They do not have time to mix with friends or to develop social skills.

A well rounded person articulates well,is
able to converse socially about all sorts of subjects outside of academia and to feel totally confident when doing so. Education should be ongoing throughout life.
